The CEF is the representative body for the construction industry in Northern Ireland with a membership of some 1300 firms both large and small.
The Federation is governed by a Council nominated by its members through Local Associations and Committees. These Committees (Private Housing, Social Housing, General Contracting and Civil Engineering) represent each of the main sectors within the industry and are elected each year at the Federation’s Annual General Meeting.
Through direct contact with MLAs, MPs and senior civil servants, the Federation ensures that the interests of the industry are promoted. Recent examples are:
- A call for a fundamental review of the Planning System
- A call for review of Waste Management regulation
- Lobbying the review of social and affordable housing
The CEF is at the forefront of raising standards, promoting best practice and increasing knowledge and awareness in a range of areas including:

- Building Regulations
Policy issues are discussed at regular meetings of each sector committee. Members are kept informed of key issues through newslines, circulars, local association meetings, member visits, courses and seminars and the website.
The Federation provides advice, guidance and a full range of services to members on a variety of issues including legal advice, business and tax, Planning, Health & Safety, Procurement, Training, Employment, Environment and Insurance.
