The Construction Benefit Scheme was established in January 1982, to provide pension benefits for those engaged in the construction industry.

The scheme currently has approximately 14,000 active members and 14,000 deferred members. A fundamental review of the scheme was carried out in 2000 and the Joint Council decided to replace the existing scheme with a new scheme.

The new scheme, Enhance - Construction Pension Scheme Northern Ireland, was launched on 7 April 2008. The new scheme is a money purchase, unitised arrangement. Scheme members have a choice of investment options and in the near future will have the opportunity to enhance their pension by adding to the contribution already provided by their employer.

More information on the new scheme and the death benefit arrangements can be found in the Download Information and Frequently Asked Questions sections.
