The PSNI have recently seen an increase in the number of reports of theft of metals such as copper and other equipment such as boilers from partially built or vacant properties. The police recognise the cost of not only replacing such items but the collateral damage their removal can cause. The Police have increased their focus on preventative patrolling however cannot deal with this issue in isolation and need to increase awareness of how contractors can safeguard partially completed houses and building sites.
Members are reminded of the increase in the industry wage rates which come into effect on 4 December 2017. The Joint Council for the Building & Civil Engineering Industry (Northern Ireland) previously promulgated the changes on 18 October 2017.
