Dept of Health Asymptomatic Testing Programme - 27th April update

The Department of Health has announced that employers from key sectors within Northern Ireland, including construction, can now access the national testing programme as part of a targeted expansion of asymptomatic testing.

27 APRIL UPDATE

The Department of Health has let us know that the Workforce Testing Programme has been expanded again. All employers with 10 or more employees or volunteers who cannot work from home are now able to access the workforce asymptomatic testing programme. Previously, this had been restricted to companies with more than 50 employees.

In addition, provision has also been made to enable small businesses or employers with 10 or less employees who cannot work from home to access rapid LFD (Lateral Flow Device) tests. The range of options will be expanding over the coming weeks but currently includes an LFD Collect service from Local Testing Sites and a Home Delivery service.

-----------------------------------------------------------

10 MARCH

Lateral Flow Tests (LFTs) will be used in the workplace testing initiative and will help in the expansion of asymptomatic testing across a range of settings in Northern Ireland.

Individuals with positive LFTs will have to isolate immediately along with their households.  They should then book a PCR swab test at their closest test site to confirm the result. Community contact tracing will be initiated on PCR confirmation. If the result of the PCR test is negative the individual and the household can leave isolation and no further action is required.

Full detail on the Programme is available via: https://www.health-ni.gov.uk/workforce-testing

The Programme will not be mandatory, it will be at each eligible company’s discretion as to whether they opt in or not. Companies with 50 or more direct employees will be eligible and if so will test staff, using lateral flow tests, once/twice per week depending on test supply. Staff will be trained to set up the testing by the Department of Health.

Members who wish to participate in the Programme should submit an expression of interest providing:

  • Your organisation’s Name
  • Your NI Company Registration Number
  • Industry / Sector for your organisation
  • Provide a short summary of your company and how you meet the criteria (max words)
  • How many employees (Total headcount)?
  • Estimated total headcount of employees who cannot work from home
  • Key Contact Name
  • Key Contact Email Address
  • Key Contact Telephone Number

Requests for further information or expressions of interest should be submitted to: asymptomatic.testing@health-ni.gov.uk
